Girl Scouts can change the world!
On International Day of the Girl 2022, Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles will be celebrating the incredible girls of our council with the “Girl Scouts Can” campaign.
The International Day of the Girl, officially adopted on October 11, 2012, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. This day shines a spotlight on empowering young girls and encouraging them to share their voices. At the same time, it raises awareness about the importance of breaking down gender barriers that are a reality for numerous girls around the globe.
“Girl Scouts Can” will expand on this holiday’s purpose by featuring local Girl Scouts in a series of videos across GSGLA social media platforms.
In addition, Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles strives to uplift as many girls as possible by delivering access to educational opportunities and mentors to underserved communities. We honor this day by recognizing the accomplishments of young women who bravely go out into the world and find solutions to causes they are passionate about. We’ve seen firsthand that Girl Scouts can impact government policy, lead a company, engineer, publish books, and so much more. Most notably, Girl Scouts can and do make the world a better place.

Mentorship and Career Exploration
Along with the Girl Scouts Can movement, GSGLA’s inaugural Mentorship and Career Exploration program will provide Girl Scouts in grades 6-12 with the opportunity to network with—and be mentored by—industry professionals and subject matter experts in small peer group settings, as well as participate in career and college readiness workshops. The program, which runs October 6 through November 2, is designed to help girls build skills, gain exposure to a myriad of careers and industries, and learn how to conquer the challenges and stressors related to life after high school. Take the next step toward your Girl Scout’s future by checking the participation interest box on the Emerging Leaders eForm.

Meet the Mentors
GSGLA is honored to partner with amazing women leaders who have experience in providing healthcare, creating in the entertainment industry, managing in engineering and architecture companies, mental health advocating, nonprofit building, and so much more. These women truly embody the spirit of “Girl Scouts Can.”
We welcome our special workshop guests from SOLV Energy, Skirball Cultural Center, Suffolk Construction, and College Wise who will lead virtual and in-person discussions about college financial aid, how to choose the right school for you, exploring visual and performance art or architectural design, and about going green with clean energy. Be sure to read about the incredible mentors and panelists participating this year and see who can help your Girl Scout learn more about a career that she’s interested in!
Be Featured
To further celebrate the International Day of the Girl, GSGLA wants Y-O-U to be a part of it. Leading up to the big day, we will be sharing “Girl Scouts Can” videos on social media, then, we will be sharing a longer video on October 11. This is where you can help!
We’re looking for girls and mentors to submit video recordings of you saying “Girl Scouts Can (insert your verb here) with a short story of what it means to you. Please email via email spowell@girlscoutsla.org if you would like more information and details on how to participate.
