The cookie bosses of Ambassador Troop 12581 are selling Girl Scout Cookies for their 12th season. The girls reflected on the lessons the Girl Scout Cookie Program has taught them over the years, including how to be “S.M.A.R.T” in their everyday lives.
As Daisies, we learned to keep things “Specific” during our first cookie season. We learned what the 5 Skills were, as well as the different cookie varieties, including flavors and costs. In keeping things as specific as possible, we were able to learn and master the basic skills.
As Brownies, we learned to keep our goals “Measurable” throughout cookie season. We made amazing goal charts and colored them in at every meeting. We were able to see our progress and share that with our friends, family, and customers. It made working toward those goals more fun and exciting!
Next, as Juniors, we learned to keep our goals “Attainable.” The sky is the limit in Girl Scouts, but we learned that it is important to set both personal and troop goals we could realistically reach. It doesn’t have to be easy, but it should be something the troop as a team can achieve.
As Cadettes, we learned to break our big goals into “Realistic” parts. This was important when we set our major goal: bridging to Seniors during a trip to Europe [scroll down to see picture]. Looking at the big picture it seemed impossible, but by breaking our big goal into specific, measurable, attainable, and realistic parts, we were eventually able to achieve it. In the end, we took a 10-day trip that we paid for entirely by our own efforts.
Lastly, as Seniors and now Ambassadors, it’s been “Time” to put these skills to use in our real, everyday lives. These skills have helped us connect with community partners as we work toward achieving the Gold Award. They have also prepared us for the demanding nature of high school and have helped us apply to college.
These skills which we have learned, practiced, and mastered since kindergarten will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
Thank you, Troop 12581, for sharing your cookie boss lessons! Are you an older Girl Scout, or lead an older troop? Share your lessons with us in the comments or via this link!
